El Rancho Cima

El Rancho Cima is located on the Devil’s Backbone in the Texas Hill Country near Wimberley, TX. The property was purchased in 1953. It is the home for two very unique camps:
Cockrell River Camp, Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend and on additional section called Ironwheel Mesa. Cockrell River Camp and Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend provide facilities for summer camp and weekend camping for many Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Cres. El Rancho Cima is just 15 miles west of San Marcos on Ranch Road 32, consisting of 2,680 acres of mountainous terrain covered under an umbrella of cedars and hardwoods. El Rancho Cima has a variety of unique programs and camping experiences. For a nominal fee, you can reserve your weekend campsite. Troops and Crews can enjoy shooting sports, horseback riding, backpacking, outdoor skills training, and general unit camping activities. For the backpacking, outdoor skills training, and general unit camping activities. For the safety of our members, we close the camp during deer hunting season from late October to mid-January. With 14 individual campsites shaded by 75-year old native pecan and black walnut trees, the camp offers 1.25 miles of river access and 30 aluminum canoes. A new state-of-the-art .22 rifle range, a five-stand shotgun range and archery range add excitement and merit badge opportunities. Other features include:

With a herd of 40 horses available, Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend has trail riding and merit badge opportunities. There are 12 campsites, an open-air dining hall for 350 people and a two-pit campfire area for 300 people. Shooting ranges include: 8-station rifle, 8-station archery and a 2-station shotgun. This area of El Rancho Cima serves as a staging camp for high adventure and older Boy Scout and Venturing activities. During the year several older youth and adult activities are scheduled; Cima Odyssey, Kodiak, Leave No Trace, Backpacking Hike & Learn and Backpacking 101. We also accommodate Boy Scout Troop and Venturing activities on the Mesa
